In a tropical rainforest setting you explore an ingenious network of pathways among lush, exotic flora.
The Butterfly Conservatory opened in December 1996, and is located on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. It contains a climate controlled greenhouse with over 2000 exotic butterflies and 60 different species, a gift shop, and a 200-seat auditorium room. Everywhere, you will be met with exquisite breeds up butterflies floating in the warm, moist air or spreading their iridescent wings on leaves and flowers.
The self-guided walking tour of the Butterfly Conservatory begins with a short, informative video presentation that is close captioned for the hearing impaired.
Enjoy the hatching station in which this particular exhibit allows you to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly. Take a look inside the Emergence window, where you may watch butterflies leave their pupae to prepare for flight.
If you wish to have a butterfly land on you, it is important to note that butterflies are attracted to perfume and cologne, bright colours (so wear vivid clothes), and try to move very slowly.
It’s one more magical, surreal environment that makes up the fascinating Niagara Park's experience that is fun for all ages.
To get there from Clifton Hill, head to the bottom of the street and turn left on the Niagara Parkway, where you will see the American Falls ahead. Stay on your route north in order to reach the Butterfly Conservatory.
