About Alan Doyle

Doyle hails from Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, where he co-founded Great Big Sea in 1993 with Sean McCann, Bob Hallett, and Darrell Power. The band is celebrated for blending traditional Newfoundland music with contemporary pop elements, resulting in a unique sound that resonates with fans. Over the years, they have released nine albums, a double-disc hits compilation, and two DVD releases, all of which have achieved Gold or Platinum status, totaling over 1.2 million copies sold in Canada.

As a solo artist, Doyle has released five albums and toured extensively with his talented six-piece band for the past decade. His memoir, Where I Belong, released in late 2014, quickly became a best-seller, followed by A Newfoundlander In Canada in 2017 and All Together Now in 2020. Doyle's versatility extends beyond music; he has appeared in popular television shows such as CBC’s Republic of Doyle and Murdoch Mysteries, as well as films like Winter’s Tale and Robin Hood.

Doyle’s dedication to his craft has earned him numerous accolades, including a JUNO nomination for his 2021 album, Back to the Harbour. His 2022 live album, Here, Tonight, showcases his ability to connect with audiences, making every performance feel special.
